New York Stock Exchange

The NEW YORK STOCK EXCHANGE, located at 11 Wall Street, is the largest STOCK EXCHANGE in the world. Established in 1792 by a small group of stock brokers, it was originally called the NEW YORK STOCK and Exchange Board. The NYSE provides facilities for STOCK BROKERS to trade securities, including investment products, BONDS, and SHARES from BUSINESSES.

Stock is a share of ownership in a business. A PROFESSIONAL STOCK BROKER buys and sells SHARES, and various securities for clients. Shares of stock in a company must first be purchased using a stock broker, and subsequent stocks may be purchased from the company directly. Stockbrokers are not required for stocks sold by a company holding direct public offerings. STOCK BROKERS listed in the NYSE BUY and SELL STOCKS & SHARES for clients, providing a range of services, including INVESTING ADVICE, and STOCK RESEARCH.
